Visiting Home
It is a strange feeling returning to an old familiar place after you have gone through a period of personal growth. For the most part, the place often remains very much the same, but you are looking at it with a new perspective. Returning to visit my family in quiet Kansas for Christmas after 7 months into my new life in Las Vegas was no different. Reuniting with high school friends turned into being bombarded with questions like “how can I get your job?” and “are you famous now?” The latter seemed incredibly silly to me but surprisingly, I got it more than once. There was obviously some disconnect between what we actually do and what it looks like to my friends and family in the Kansas suburbs.
Nevertheless, it cemented my appreciation for the wonderful opportunity I have been given at Magnetic Public Relations. I am seven months out of college and also seven months into a job in my degree’s field, a feat in itself these days for many. Simply being back in the quiet environment also secured those feelings. I enjoy my fast-paced work environment, set in a city that never sleeps, filled with bold, go-getting visionaries.
My intentions were to explain how I felt like a different woman while on my visit home, but it has turned into a love letter to my job and Las Vegas. More often than not, any question about my life now turns into exactly that. Getting to do what I love is the best part – the added bonuses are the incredible people I have met, the one-of-a-kind experiences, and witnessing the stars in people’s eyes when they ask about my job.
